Abstract:  In this presentation, I will discuss mechanisms of and materials for high temperature oxygen reduction, with an emphasis on elucidating the relationship between activity and stability.  First, I will describe the current status of basic energy research in US, particularly in the areas related to fuel cells and batteries; then I will discuss experimental approaches to investigate high temperature oxygen reduction catalysts, followed by our recent results on decoupling the conjugation between high performance and highly stability in high temperature oxygen electrodes.
