On the afternoon of 16th April, the “ACS on Campus” activity hosted by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and undertaken by the Xiamen University was successfully held in the Chemistry Report Hall of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. This is the first time that the series events of ACS on Campus has come to Xiamen University. And it attracted more than 100 students and researchers from Xiamen University and other surrounding universities. Professor Vivian W.W. Yam from Hong Kong University (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Associate Editor-in-Chief of ACS Inorganic Chemistry), researcher Guangjun Nie from the National Nanoscience Center (Associate Editor-in-Chief of ACS Nano Letters) and Professor Baiqing Xu from Tsinghua University (Associate Editor-in-Chief of ACS Catalysis) were invited as guest speakers. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Chunxiao Zheng (Director of ACS China Strategy and Science Development).

At the opening ceremony, Bin Ren (Vice Dean of our college) expressed warm welcome to the ACS on Campus activity. He said that face-to-face communication with ACS journal editors would effectively help researchers and students improve their research level. In the speech, Bin Chen (Associate Director of Xiamen University Library) introduced the basic situation of Xiamen University's electronic collections, and pointed out that the literatures in the fields of chemistry, biology, oceanography and other subjects are quite rich, systematic and unique, providing a strong guarantee for our teaching and research work.

During this half-day activity, the guest speakers made several wonderful reports on academic paper writing and publishing, peer review, resource search, and academic ethics and copyright, following with warm interactions. Through those reports, participants realized that the mechanism and rules for peer review during paper submission are of great significance for the successful publication of their academic achievements and the improvement of their academic influence. Academic norms, academic ethics and copyright awareness are the academic moral baselines that every scientific research practitioner should abide by. During the tea break, participants further communicated with the journal editors.

The ACS on Campus is a key outreach event of the American Chemical Society. Since 2010, it has been held in hundreds of colleges around the world to provide students, teachers and researchers with a more effective understanding of the ACS journal database, offering a strong support to researchers and learners’ success.
