报告摘要:
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MRT) combines minimal invasiveness with maximal information content. Thanks to these beneficial properties, MRI has become an indispensable part of clinical diagnostics. Current research aims to further advance its diagnostic relevance by improvements in hardware and software. On the fundamental level, the imaging process quantifies structural and dynamical properties of tissues by using nuclear spins as probes of their environment. Understanding and quantifying the fundamental physical limits for these processes and interactions is therefore important for directing the research in this area. Recent advances in the field of quantum information and quantum sensing provide useful tools for this analysis, which can be used to reduce measurements times and maximise the information content of quantitative MRI. In the context of functional imaging, optimal control techniques allow one to selectively excite specific metabolites, suppressing the usually dominant water signal by several orders of magnitude. Finally, finding the most suitable data processing can reveal details that are hard to detect under standard processing conditions.
报告人简介:
Dieter Suter received his PhD from ETH Zurich in 1985 for work on the dynamics of nuclear spins in solids. After a postdoctoral position at UC Berekely, he moved into quantum optics at ETH Zurich, where he studied atomic multilevel systems. In 1995, he became a full professor at the University of Dortmund. His current research concentrates on the investigation of structure and dynamics of condensed matter systems by magnetic resonance and high resolution laser spectroscopy, and on quantum information processing.
